Topic: Chestnut seller

Action: Under an awning attached to a building, the chestnut seller stirs the contents of a pot set on a portable stove; next to him a child works on several baskets of chestnuts. In the foreground, a man sits by a bucket, in front of his basket of produce (possibly chestnuts), and with his queue wrapped around his head. A woman wearing Manchu dress, a man and two children walk away.

Image Particulars: Wrapping one’s queue around the head was a convenient way for laborers to keep it out of the way when bending to work.
